Southern Tasmanian Kart Club - Club Titles 17th Feb 2008.

This was the first time I had made the trip to the Orielton track. It is very different to Highclere and Archerville, which I think is a good thing. I was able to take different shots than normal and managed to get some really nice shots.

My HDD is dead

I think the title speaks for it's self but I'll add a little more.

In October last year I was running out of space on my computer hard drive and my external hard drive as well. So I upgraded and put a 500gb internal HDD in my computer. Everything seemed fine. I kept on taking photos and put them onto the new drive knowing that I had plenty of room to spare. Then Tuesday happened.

Up until Tuesday night I had about 250gb of info stored on the second hard drive. I was working away on the computer when the second HDD suddenly vanished. I couldn't find it so I took it into the shop for repairs. Two days later they tell me that the drive is dead and that all the information on it is lost.

I was in shock when I heard that. Only now do I fully realise the the amount lost. I no longer have the original RAW files from my trip to Strahan, Mt Field, all my motor sport photos, Evercreech, New Years fireworks and every shot from this year. Along with the RAW files I've also lost all the processed files as well.

The bright side of this (if you can call it that) is I do have a lot of my processed images on my website. I've ordered a back-up of them today so at least I'll have something.

I think I will be very paranoid from now on and back-up everything. I might get myself some external HDD's and use them for back-ups or at the very least burn DVD's after every photo shoot.

Photo Book

In the past few weeks I've put together a book containing my favourite images from September 2005 to January 2008. I called it "Photography Anthology".

All the images in the book can be found on my web site: Colblue Photography

I split the book into 4 sections, Scapes, Sports, Other and Night. Scapes, has landscapes, seascapes, sunsets, rivers and waterfalls. Sports, has a selection of Golf, Go Karts and motor sports. Other, has just about everything else in it. Night, well that has what it says. :) In total it has 102 pages of photos from my home state of Tasmania.

Russell Falls

My trip to the Mt Field National park was very enjoyable. I met up with another photographer from the Photo forum, Tim. We had some fun taking shots and shared the gruelling task of a long day of walking.

It was a beautiful spring day and the Waterfalls were spectacular. I never realised how big the Russell Falls actually were until I witnessed them up close. The flow of water was down a little but there was still plenty to admire, especially on the top portion of the falls.

It's a gentle walk to the bottom of the Russell Falls from the visitors centre. The track then kicks up step to the top where the track continues to the Horse Shoe Falls. The sun was too harsh to get a good shot of the Horse Shoe Falls.

The Lady Barron Falls can be reached from here by following a long track. The reduced flow of water and harsh sunlight made these falls hard to photograph, but well worth the effort to see. The walk back to the Visitors centre was flat along side the river until the track suddenly stopped and headed up a huge set of stairs. Thankfully the builders provided some seats at different levels of the climb. It was a long way to the top!

I've also been hooked by HDR (High Dynamic Range) over the weekend. (Thanks Jen!) I have been playing around with a program called Photomatix. This is one of the many creations I've come up with so far.
